The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our Museum Education team. This position is responsible for assisting the Curator of Education with the development and presentation of educational programs for school field trips and student groups in grades K-12. Additionally, this position assists and participates in planning, promoting, and implementing other special events and programs, and assists with visitor services as required.

Schedule:  FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE. Minimum 3 days per week, Tuesday-Friday 10-5; Special event hours include occasional weekends and evenings.

Pay: $17/hr (Up to 29 hrs per week)

Key Responsibilities:

*Handle all field trips and other group reservations, including scheduling tour guides.

*Plan themes, create and order materials, and assemble boxes for the History-to-Go box program.

*Provide guided tours of the 1897 Poe House and Museum for field trip groups; provide regularly scheduled tours of the 1897 Poe House for the public as needed.

*Assist Curator of Education with developing new field trip content in alignment with current NC curriculum standards.

*Assist with visitor services, including gift shop purchases.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

To qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following KSA's listed below:

  1. Experience in developing and presenting effective and engaging education programs for children of all ages.
  2. Basic knowledge of NC curriculum standards for grades K-12 and NC history.
  3. Must be well organized and have demonstrated writing and public speaking capabilities.
  4. Experience speaking and presenting in front of large groups of students and the public.
  5. Must have a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation.
  6. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  7. Must have the ability to climb stairs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public History, History, Education or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school diploma with 2 years experience developing educational programs for school age children.

This position is responsible for working with the Education staff to develop and implement consistent and creative social media content across all platforms. Additionally, this position assists and participates in planning, promoting, and implementing other special events and programs, and assists with visitor services as required.

Schedule: FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE, Minimum 2 days per week, Tuesday-Friday between hours of 10-5; Special event hours include occasional weekends and evenings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and curate engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Assist in the creation and editing of written, video, and photo content.
  • Attend events and produce live social media content.
  • Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
  • Collaborate with education team to create a social media calendar.
  • Interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
  • Review analytics and create reports on key metrics.
  • Assist in the development and management of social media marketing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following KSA's listed below:

  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
  • Proficiency with video and photo editing tools, digital media formats, and HTML
  • Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in the digital content and social media space.
  • Strong copywriting and copy editing skills.
  • Top-notch oral and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma, (Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field preferred); 1-3 years experience with social media marketing or content development; Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook); Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premier Pro) or equivalent digital media editing tools a plus; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
